MBBR BIO MEDIA FILTER
MBBR means: Moving Bed Bioreactor System, this system uses a complete mix
activated sludge reactor with the addition of a floating inert media, The mixed liquor
is removed in conventional secondary clarifiers, and return sludge is pumped to the
head of the aeration tank as in conventional activated sludge systems.
Control of the concentration of MLSS is complished through wasting sludge
from the return sludge stream.
Benefits of MBBR systems include:
• More biomass per unit volume of aeration tank
• Flexibility, can add more media with industrial growth
• Improved settleability
• Higher WAS concentration
• Retrofit opportunities
• High relative surface area per cubic meter
• Lightweight zero buoyancy..
• Self cleaning.
• Ideal surface for biofilm to multiply.
Ideal Applications.
• Sewage treatment.
• Aquaculture farms.
• Koi filters.
Limitations of MBBR include:
• Pretreatment required to eliminate plugging the screens
• Oil and grease may coat the media
