IMPT filler bad layer has large voidage, there are many circular-arc liquid channels, which reduce the resistance when air pass through the bed layer, and reduces the radial dispersion when the liquid flowing down. So the wall-flow effect of IMPT filler layer is smaller than that of rasching ring filler. The retentivity of liquid distributing is good, that means at the condition of good original liquid distributing, the mass transfer quotiety will be greatly improved.

Metal IMTP is a new kind filler lies between open celled filler and IMTP filler, It has circular ring, rampart open-cell and inner tongue pieces similar to open-celled filler and circular-arc channel like IMTP. Furthermore, flanging and tooth profile at both side increase contact points among fillers together, so that it increases voidage among fillers, and add convergence and dispersion points for liquids. The open structure of this filler made it bigger flux, lower pressure drop, so it is helpful to liquid distributing on filler surface and accelerates liquid renewal, then improved mass transfer capability of filler.
